Participants
In its courses and other educational experiences the ACTRAV-Turin Labour Education Programme trains some 1,500 unionists a year both in Turin and in regions around the world. In addition some 500 more unionists attend courses conducted by other Programmes at the International Training Centre.
The Programme's participants work for labour organizations based mainly in developing and emerging market countries. The process by which they are chosen to attend an activity is the following.
The Secretary of the Workers' Group of the ILO decides on the organizations which are invited to send participants to an activity. These organizations are mainly national labour centres. They are asked to nominate two candidates: a man and a woman, both of whom must be under 45 years of age. The activity manager (the labour educator responsible for organizing the activity) then chooses the participant who can attend.
Unionists interested in participating in the Programme's activities should indicate their willingness to their national labour centre. No participants are enrolled directly in the activities without going through the process described above.
